Northeast Region conducts Pervious Concrete Demonstration

With the construction industry evolving to meet the demands of a more environmentally conscious marketplace, Aggregate Industries Northeast Region is constantly seeking out opportunities to expand our core business.  With this in mind, we view the development of products aimed toward sustainablity as a vital part of our continued success.

As a key part of our new approach to developing Green building products, we have recently devoted additional resources to focus on developing sustainable solutions. Aggregate Industries partnered with the Massachusetts Concrete and Aggregate Producers Association (MACAPA), Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) and the University of Rhode Island (URI) to provide two training demonstrations on  Pervious Concrete and the benefits of improving storm water management and low impact development.

MACAPA, through its representative Sean Legion, selected seven concrete finishers to participate and who at the completion of training became certified installers of pervious concrete.  The training was led by Bob Banka of Master Builders/BASF, who is a certified trainer in the installation of pervious concrete and brings years of experience and expertise to the process. 

The training sessions were separated with the WPI site strictly for contractor training / accreditation and the Sutton session broken up into two parts. The first part was dedicated to contractor training and accreditation while the second part featured a presentation on the benefits of using pervious concrete and an overview of the USGBC’s LEED certification program. Over 100 people attended the demonstration.
