Aggregate Industries US enters key partnerships with two national sustainability programs As a part of a continued commitment to sustainable practices, Aggregate Industries US announced today it has entered into a partnership with the US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) Climate Leaders program. By becoming a Climate Leaders partner, Aggregate Industries US has pledged to reduce its company-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The company also announced that it has established a new partnership with the Cool Climate Concrete (C3) program. This effort will allow Aggregate Industries to provide carbon offset credits gained from the use of supplementary cementitious materials in the production of ready mixed concrete. The partnerships were announced during the International Greenbuild Conference and Expo in Chicago, Illinois. ![]() EPA Climate Leaders; Launched in February 2002, EPA’s Climate Leaders is an industry-government partnership that works to develop long-term comprehensive corporate climate change strategies. "Our Climate Leaders partners are demonstrating corporate climate change leadership by embracing energy efficiency, green power, and technological innovation as sound business investments," said EPA Deputy Administrator Marcus Peacock. Climate Leaders partners set a company-wide greenhouse gas reduction goal and monitor their emissions to measure progress. By reporting measured data to EPA, partners create a lasting record of their accomplishments. Partners also identify themselves as corporate environmental leaders and strategically position themselves as climate change policy continues to unfold. ![]() Cool Climate Concrete; C3 is a monitored and verified offset program that encourages reductions in the use of ASTM C150 Portland Cement through the incorporation of slag, fly ash and other cementitious materials into the concrete mix. The C3 program is funded through the Climate Trust, a non-profit organization in Oregon that implements offsets for CO2 emissions in excess of Oregon’s carbon dioxide standard. Horst, Inc. is a sustainable materials firm contracted with the Climate Trust to run the C3 Program. Derek Young, Aggregate Industries’ Advisor for US Corporate Social Responsibility said, “Aggregate Industries is extremely proud to partner with these two exceptional programs. The EPA’s Climate Leaders program emphasizes our commitment to taking significant action to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, while the Cool Climate Concrete program underscores our goals of offsetting carbon emissions. We believe it is the hallmark of a responsible company to address these important issues and we look forward to building relationships with both the Climate Leaders and C3.”
