Aggregate Industries Receives Top Prize for Unique Use of Concrete

AI recognized by American Concrete Institute, Rocky Mountain Chapter, for two projects in Colorado  

Golden, Colorado, May 2009: Aggregate Industries was recognized at the 41st American Concrete Institute, Rocky Mountain Chapter’s awards ceremony for two projects in the Company’s Western Region (Previously West Central Region), which serves the Colorado marketplace.

Aggregate Industries received the Award for Excellence in the category of Unique Use of Concrete for its Marston Reservoir project. The Company constructed a foundation pedestal 80 feet below the water line in the Marston Reservoir. The project required the use of a tugboat and barge to maneuver a pump into place. The form and reinforcement were assembled as one piece, enabling the crane to lower the structure to the bottom of the reservoir. A ready mix truck was then barged to the center of the reservoir, where concrete was discharged into the pump, transporting the concrete material to the base of the reservoir. This foundation was constructed to support the new oxygenation system.

The Company also received the award for Merritt in recognition of its work in supplying concrete to the City of Boulder’s project to update and retrofit a wastewater treatment plant on 75th Street in Boulder, Colorado. The award highlights the quality and consistency of the product being produced by Aggregate Industries in Colorado.
