Colorado Breaks Ground on the First Stimulus Funded Construction Job

Aggregate Industries wins the Federal Stimulus contract to resurface Belleview Avenue

Golden, Colorado, May 20, 2009 – Aggregate Industries’ West Central Region was awarded the first contract provided by the Federal Stimulus Bill for construction in the State of Colorado to resurface Belleview Avenue. The job, which broke ground yesterday, will require more then 26,000 tons of product to resurface approximately one mile of Belleview Avenue (State Highway 88) between Federal Boulevard and Santa Fe Drive. Aggregate Industries bid the project at $407,407.

According to the Colorado Business Journal, Governor Bill Ritter, during the project’s groundbreaking ceremony, stated that “this funding...puts people to work.” “It creates jobs in transportation construction, energy efficiency, and water projects,” added the Governor.

Wes Stearns, General Manager of the asphalt and construction division of Aggregate Industries, added to that sentiment, stating, “the job will have 15 to 20 people working on it, including seven that were recalled to work at the Company after they were laid off during the wintertime slowdown in road construction.”

Aggregate Industries is pursuing Stimulus Funding around the country and has been awarded jobs in Maryland, including the Charles County, MD State Highway Maintenance Contract, a $4.9 million, 40,000 ton job; the resurfacing of MD Rte. 5 and MD Rte. 373, which will be a $1.8 million job using 30,000 tons; and an extension to the Company’s existing work at Andrews Air force Base, adding an additional $1.6 million and 20,000 tons of product to the ongoing paving work already planned.

The Federal Stimulus Funds are providing vitally important resources to the construction industry across the country, creating new projects and new jobs. Aggregate Industries remains well positioned to pursue Stimulus funded work and will continue to compete for the federally funded jobs across the country.
